Alicia Keys says she is the “best wall builder that ever lived.” In a recent interview with “Blender” magazine, the singer blames her tendency to shut people out on her early days in music. When she was just eleven, Alicia says she would get work offers from strip-club owners and pimps as she walked home from music lessons. Alicia signed her first record deal at age 16. She claims music producers tried to bed her, or use her talent to further their careers. Alicia says she began to build walls that kept everyone out of her personal feelings, including her mom and her manager. Last year, Alicia took a solo trip to Egypt to clear her head. She says of the need for the journey, quote, “I was hanging off the edge of a cliff. Something had to give, or I was gonna lose my mind.” The full interview with Alicia is in the current issue of “Blender,” on newsstands now.
