Throwback Video: TLC - Ain’t 2 proud 2 beg

“Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg” is TLC’s debut single from their debut album, Ooooooohhh…. On the TLC Tip. The song reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, becoming their first single to reach the top ten on both charts. The single also reached to Top 20 in the UK. The song is very much about the girls saying that they don’t mind begging for sex. Dallas Austin and Left Eye were nominated for the Best R&B Song Grammy Award for this single.

Madonna - “Like A Prayer” Her Most controversial Video

This is my favorite Madonna songs. It was released in1989  and it was a 4x platinum hit. Pepsi decided to use the song as part of their soft drink commercial featuring Madonna. The commercial was aired twice before the release of the music video on MTV. Pepsi had no idea about the controversial content depicted in the video; Madonna witnesses a murder, kisses a black saint, displays stigmata after cutting her palms on a knife, and dances in a field of burning crosses. Religious groups were furious and threatened to boycott Pepsi. They decided the risk was too great, and they cancelled their ad campaign and the sponsorship deal, although Madonna got to keep the $5 million in her contract. Due to the high publicity surrounding the controversy, the single soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the USA. The album debuted at #11, and within three weeks, shot to #1, where it would stay for over a month. According to a list released by Time magazine on November 13, 2006, Like a Prayer is one of the 100 greatest albums of all time.

Throwback Video: Lil’ Kim - Crush On You

“Crush on You” is the multi-platinum smash single by Lil’ Kim off her debut album. It landed to the top twenty five in the UK, and the top twenty in the US and features fellow Junior M.A.F.I.A. member Lil’ Cease & The Notorious B.I.G. Its also featured Luther R. Campbell and Aaliyah. I can’t believe how much Lil Kim has changed since she made this video in 1997.

The Boys Throwback video

I had to make The Boys my first throwback video. I used to be a big fan of their’s when I was a Youngster .  The Boys was an American R&B quartet comprised of the four Abdulsamad brothers, Khiry (born in 1973), Hakim (born in 1975), Tajh (born in 1976), and Bilal (born in 1979). The group featured four young male vocalists, it could be considered an early example of a boy band.
As the 90s progressed, the members of the group moved to the Western African state of Gambia, where they set up a recording studio. The group began to develop a new sound and became known as The Suns of Light. The group continues to produce music and release albums on a regular basis. In 2007 Hakim, who wrote and produced “Mama Africa,” on Akon’s Konvicted album will be out with a new album later this year, as well as his younger brothers Tahj and Bilal.
